SCADA Point to Point/Multi-point Radio Telemetry System

SCADA/Telemetry Radios can be in licensed wireless (UHF, VHF, 900MHz MAS, and with licensed 2.5GHz orwith 700MHz LTE) or unlicensed wireless (900MHz, 2.4GHz, or 5.8GHz point to multipoint wireless back haul) spectrum’s.

Petro Min Engineers has been tasked to provide complete wireless back haul SCADA network solutions from RF design, license coordination ( for licensed 400Mhz point to multipoint wireless backhaul and 5.8Ghz point to point wireless backhaul) to electrical, PLC and SCADA control systems and network design for dewatering systems at BHP Billiton’s Mining Area C ( MAC).

The telemetry system are used to create connectivity between SCADA and various components (e.g. flowmeters, pressure transmitters, bore level sensors, metering devices, PLCs and host computer). The SCADA system are set up in a “ polling architecture” and require low throughput speeds.

With the growth of automated IP based systems older serial systems are now being migrated to Ethernet IP based networks. There are many advantages of utilizing IP based architectures such as remote access, centralization, data network monitoring, convergence of other IP based devices, and Power Over Ethernet capability ( POE).

The new telemetry system at MAC will allow BHP Billiton to streamline their maintenance process by allowing remote monitoring of each trailer’s GPS coordinate, advanced equipment status, instant remote control, flow usage at key points within the dewatering system to comply with regulatory
