AAA METAL RECYCLING AUSTRALIA PTY LTD – Stage 2 – Metal Shredder

Following the successful completion and energization of a new 22kV, 3MVA utility connection to the site, Petro Min Engineers were re-engaged by AAA Metal Recycling Australia Pty Ltd to provide the high and low voltage reticulation design and control system modifications associated with the replacement of their existing Metal Shredder Motor.

The existing metal shredder, which is driven by a diesel engine, is to be replaced with a new 2500HP, 700VDC motor. The motor shall be operated via a 24 pulse Variable Speed Drive, comprising of four (4) 6 pulse drives housed within an enclosed air conditioned Switchroom.

The VSD will be supplied from two (2) new 1,500kVA, 22kV/575V/575V, D(e)dy, KNAN Transformers, having specific impedances, vectors, and phase shifting requirements in order to compensate for the effects of harmonics and flicker in accordance with the Western Power Technical Rules.

Petro Min Engineers have also provided technical assistance during the construction of the new shredder infrastructure being supplied by overseas vendors, to ensure all equipment complies with the relevant Australian Standards and local regulations.

Our control systems experts have also completed the necessary design for removing all signals associated with the diesel engine and implementing new control logic and interlocks between the existing Plant and the new Shredder Motor PLC control systems.

Testing and commissioning of the complete system is currently scheduled for February 2022.
