GEMCO PC02 Power Station

Petro Min Engineers was engaged by Zenith Pacific to commission the control system for a new power station on Groote Eylandt, Northern Territory.

The new power station is built by Zenith Pacific for SEDGMAN, who is the main contractor in charge of the new manganese processing plant.

There are three generators in the power station and each generator has their own individual governor/synchroniser (Si-TEC Xtend series TGC controller). The governor provides full isochronous(Automatic) and Droop (Manual) load sharing with an accuracy of 0.01%.

The synchroniser is fully integrated with the governor providing phase rotation checks, volts matching, intelligent dead bus closure and menu adjustable synchoniser parameters.

Each generator also has a PLC that communicates to the Anybus Gateway, which then talks to the SAM module via J1939 protocol. The PLC also controls the fuel solenoid and communicate with the Si-TEC controller.

Each generator PLC will also communicate back to a Master PLC which determines the generator start/stop sequence.

PME also provided a SCADA control system that logs electrical data, user adjustable settings for generator start/stop sequence and communication to other networks.
