A client developing a prototype electric underground mobile drilling rig with AC Variable Speed Drive requested services from Petro Min Engineers to provide the following:
- Sizing and specifying bespoke components for the drive system (including DC capacitors and braking resistors).
- Providing testing and measurement services for prototype testing. Determining steady state performance, system efficiencies, transient response.
- DC Bus Voltage
- Shaft RPM
- Motor Current
- Motor Voltage (phase to phase)
- Generator Frequency
- Generator Voltage (phase to phase)
Capacitors were sized and fitted, reducing the DC ripple voltage to within acceptable limits and reducing torque ripple in the system.
